Merry Chistmas or Xmas
Todd preached an excellent message today, that pointed out how we as Christians have allowed our holiday marking the birth of our Lord to be hijacked by commercialism, with christians willingly participating with the pagans in the orgy of consumerism.
I also read an article on the same subject tonight and found it entertaining. Check out How Important is Christmas?
I am reminded of people freaking out when stores used the term X-mas, not realizing that X was shorthand for Christ by followers of The Way in the first century. Though I am sure most businesses that use this abbreviation have no idea of this. The point really should be what we do with the holiday. If we as Xians don't observe the holy holiday in a fashion the event calls for, then maybe, as Todd says, we should just say Happy Holidays and leave Christ out of it all together. Todd has more on his blog as well.
